Background: EMR3 is an Orphan-B GPCR with an unknown ligand. Two variants are produced by alternative splicing. One form encodes a 652-amino acid GPCR consisting of two EGF-like domains and a mucin stalk, while the other is a truncated soluble form containing only two EGF-like domains. EMR3 and EMR2 share a high degree of sequence identity in the transmembrane domains.
