Background: The protein encoded by this gene specifies the cardiacmuscle family member of the calsequestrin family. Calsequestrin islocalized to the sarcoplasmic reticulum in cardiac and slowskeletal muscle cells. The protein is a calcium binding proteinthat stores calcium for muscle function. Mutations in this genecause stress-induced polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, alsoreferred to as catecholaminergic polymorphic ventriculartachycardia 2 (CPVT2), a disease characterized by bidirectionalventricular tachycardia that may lead to cardiac arrest.
