Background: The PO3.1 monoclonal antibody specifically reacts with CD86, also known as B7-2, a surface 80 kDa receptor and member of the B7 family. CD86 is a costimulatory molecule, expressed on B and T cells, dendritic cells, astrocytes, macrophages, Langerhans cells, and at a low level in newly explanted B and T lymphocytes. CD86 expression on B lymphocytes is upregulated by B-Cell Receptor complex, CD40 and certain cytokine receptors. CD80 (B7-1) and CD 86 (B7-2) are receptors for CD28 and CTLA-4, on the surface of T lymphocytes, enhancing the interactions between B and T cells.
