Background: IL-37 (Interleukin-37) belongs to the IL-1 family. It binds to interleukin-18 receptor (IL-18R) but not to IL-1 receptor. It was shown to play an important role as a link between innate and adaptive immunity and it is suggested as a new player in the inflammatory and immune responses mediated by the IL-18/IL-18R axis. It was also shown to inhibit tumor growth.
