Background: The protein encoded by this gene is a bZIP transcriptionfactor which can bind as a homodimer to certain DNA regulatoryregions. It can also form heterodimers with the related proteinCEBP-delta. The encoded protein may be essential for terminaldifferentiation and functional maturation of committed granulocyteprogenitor cells. Mutations in this gene have been associated withSpecific Granule Deficiency, a rare congenital disorder. Multiplevariants of this gene have been described, but the full-lengthnature of only one has been determined.
